As a border and coastal state, Californian culture has been greatly influenced by several large immigrant populations, especially those from Asia and Latin America. California is a true melting pot as well as an international crossroad to the U.S.

In terms of socio-cultural mores and national politics, Californians are perceived as more liberal than other Americans, especially those who live in the inland states. In some ways, California is the quintessential Blue State – accepting of alternative lifestyles, not uniformly religious, and preoccupied with environmental issues.

California has long been a subject of interest in the public mind and has often been promoted by its boosters as a kind of paradise. Many Americans saw the Golden State as an ideal resort destination, sunny all year round with easy access to the ocean and mountains.

San Francisco Bay Area

The city of San Francisco is a financial center in the West Coast of the United States. Equipped with large capacity seaport and airports, the Bay Area is also the center of the international trade, import and export.

Silicon Valley, is the frontier of the world’s high technology, and scientific research and development. Congregated by companies such as IBM, Intel, Cisco, Google, Yahoo and countless startup and established technology companies, Silicon Valley is the dreamland of the world’s technology professionals and pioneering entrepreneurs.

The Bay Area is the home of many art, science and history museums. Asian Art Museum, de Young Museum, California Academy of Sciences, and The Walt Disney Family Museum, to name a few.

The surrounding region contains a multitude of natural beauty such as Mount Tamalpais and Muir Woods; scenic bayside communities such as Tiburon and Sausalito; and neighboring cities such as Oakland and Berkeley. From San Francisco, you can reach any of these points in an hour or less by car. Public transportation options are also available.

The State of California extends along the shore of the Pacific Ocean. Its more than 1,340 miles of coastline constitutes nearly three-fourths of the Pacific coastline of the conterminous United States.
A large number of people come to California in order to enjoy the benefits of the celebrated climate. It comes as a surprise, therefore, to many newcomers to learn that within the State are to be found a variety of climates, ranging from one extreme to the other. Temperatures have been recorded from minus 45° (Celsius -42oC) to 134° F (Celsius 56oC). Annual precipitation at one measuring station has exceeded 161 inches, while other points have gone for more than a year with no measureable rain. A Californian, if he is free to select his living site, may choose almost any kind of climate.

Schools

California is home to many prestigious universities including University of California at Berkeley, University of California at Los Angeles, and Stanford. The State also offers many outstanding universities and colleges, and award winning high schools and elementary schools. Educational opportunities are open to people at all ages.

Employments

California’s dynamic economic life in high technology, trading, commerce, entertainment, agriculture, service, and virtually all occupations offers many opportunities for international entrepreneurs.
